In Baluchi village, Iran, 1997

Firm “Tepisi Jas” d.o.o. is established in 1997, the very same year I returned from Iran, after living there for four years. My passion for handmade carpets and kilims has turned to business and neverending search for that “special piece”. Nomad carpets, kilims, soumaks and other handmade textile items (bags, bed quilts, pillows, saddlebags) are imported from Iran. From 2006 we started importing carpets form Turkey as well.

Each item in our collection is distinguished by its distinctive feature: size, colour, design, quality, material, age or simply by its uniqueness. Such items are ever more rare to find because nomad way of life is slowly dying out and so does the process of handmade textile for own everyday use. We are all witnessing a disappearance of original nomad handicrafts, which is a great loss for carpet and kilim market. Nomad handmade carpets and kilims – depending on circumstances of their origin and personal talents of their makers – could be unbelievably beautiful and valuable, and sometimes achieve extremely high prices. Human need to create and possess something beautiful is truly inspiration of the art. And nomad carpets, kilims, saddlebags… often are reflection of that need. They touch us to the heart, and we cherish them, keep them and understand them… and leave them to the posterity.
